did my spring cleaning only on the cny eve. quite rushed, but still efficient, in fact i like doing things at the last min. :X anyway, digged out some interesting stuff during spring cleaning, things which i know have existed yet kept in some dark corners for n years.

according to the 'oldness' of the item,

# item 1: (1996?) diary cum miscellaneous-purpose book. i remembered copying essays from an essay book into this book. now, i wonder why i did that...

# item 2: (1997?) pencil cap (just for adding decoration to the dull pencil) which i kept for like 10 years already but havent really used it?
# item 3: (1998) miniature toys which is one of my fav. collectible when i was young. i remembered i even plead my dad to buy a bunch of those miniature umbrellas and he did.

# item 4: (2000) love hello kitty when i was young, collected a lot of hello kitty stuff, this is one of them.
# item 5: (2001) children's day gift from the school. i miss school life in jurong primary...

# item 6: (2003): my precious wei chain given to me by wei fan, mo mo jie. it was a really great gift!

# item 7: (2004?) sadly, ive forgotten much about origami. i think i still remember the lotus as it involves flipping and folding only, easy. i remembered i was damn good in folding cranes.

these lil stuff follows me, and will always be part of my many memories.

uncle proud to be who he is now.

my 1st uncle called me on the 21st of jan when i was at work, breaking the happening news about her new-born granddaughter. he came to our house 3 days later, full of smiles, asked my sis and i to visit the lil girl. of cause, we were so eager to see her.

peeping at us while we were peeping at her when she's having her nap?

i really didnt know babies can wink.

she's so sweet...

(credits to sis for the pics)

on the other hand, i were quite curious about how their bunny felt about having a new member in the family. will she feel neglected? and damn, my cousin urged me to carry it, telling me she wont bite, my uncle chorused. contradictorily, my aunt said it will bite. to play safe, i refused to carry it.

bunny seems so lonely...

Rui En's autograph session

i got en looking into my cam! wee~~ so lucky to get this for im shooting with my laggy cam...

this lil boy, Daniel, 7, is one of en's supporters and i didnt realise i saw him before at taekwondo. his sis was my junior. from his mum, the family of 5 admire en for her acting, esp Daniel boy, who is an avid fan of en after watching 不凡的爱,'by my side'.

Daniel was so lucky to be the youngest one up on stage, and had the privilege of being hugged by en. we en fans all literally went 'woo-ing' with envy.

(credits to Hilda, Daniel's mum for photos of en)

Doubleness: Photography by Chang Chien-Chi

CHINA TOWN

i suppose it's cooler outside the dorm, at the fire escape. i have never seen a picture from such a perspective before, i think it will be really cool to see them on the fire escapes real life.

these chinese labourers, mostly uneducated, undocumented, and unskilled, pay smugglers as much as US$75, 000 to leave their homes to work in china town in new york city. their little leisure time is spent in crowded dorm-like apartments. because of their illegal status, they cannot go home, even for a visit. they can only afford to send money.

Chang began to wonder about the their families, their wives and children -- many of whom the men had not seen since they were born.

wives of the labourers with their children, waiting for their husbands... those who took chinese literature, don't u think it's like the poem 《错误》?

hmm... i sort of miss chinese literature...

THE CHAIN

i was initially bewildered by these pictures. doubleness, yes, relevant, but what exactly is Chang depicting?

these photographs are actually taken at Long Fa Tang temple in southern Taiwan. Long Fa Tang can be perceived as either sanctuary of a prison housing some 700 mental patients. the temple administers neither medications nor treatments. instead, the monks and nuns employ chain chains for therapeutic purposes. a patient in stable condition is linked and locked to one who is considered less sane. day in and out, the more lucid leads the chained duo.

desperate families would see Long Fa Tang as the last resort for the incurable. their methods haven proven successful in treating the mentally ill and they claimed that the temple no longer uses the chain on these patients.

the photographs themselves, however, tell a different story. grotesque and yet deeply human, they speak of misery and of isolation, of the sadness of being abandoned by everyone, and forcibly and intimately bound to a stranger. for as long as both shall live.

is'nt this novel to you? at least to me, it is. meanwhile, observe their expressions.

VOOM PORTRAITS Robert Wilson

'the video portraits can be seen in three ways - portrait, still life and landscape. in constructing these spaces, we see an image which can be though of as a portrait. if we look carefully, this still life is a real life. and in a way, if we think about it and look at them long enough, the mental spaces become mental landscapes.'

profound philosophy of art. i dont understand...
